Okavango Delta
A journey to the Okavango Delta – deep into Africa’s untouched interior – is like no other. Moving from wetland to dryland – traversing the meandering palm and papyrus fringed waterways, passing palm-fringed islands, and thick woodland, resplendent with lush vegetation, and rich in wildlife – reveals the many facets of this unique ecosystem, the largest intact inland delta in the world. The Delta's water starts from the Angolan Highlands and slowly travels into Botswana arriving in April/May. The flood peaks between June & August, and then slowly disappears into the sands of the Kalahari. In some areas water is always present, while in others it can be very seasonal.
For the greatest variety we recommend a camp of the fringe of the main lagoon areas, which can offer both water based activities (like mokoro canoes) plus game drives on the land. This option lets you experience the best of the Delta region.
For a tranquil time then select a camp on one of the small islands right in the middle of the Delta where your mode of transport is canoe & boat. You will also have the opportunity to undertake guided walks on some of the islands.
Some of the camps listed as being in the "Okavango" area can be quite far from the water and will only provide vehicular and walking game viewing options.
