The Serengeti Plains
The richness of the soil of these vast plains fosters one of the greatest populations of wildebeest and zebra on earth. Top this off with all of the other species that inhabit the area, and it is no wonder that the Serengeti is one of Africa's main wildlife attractions.
In May every year the main herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate across the Serengeti and northward into the Masai Mara in southern Kenya. The "migration" is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. The herds return in November to calve in the southern Serengeti. While most of the species do not migrate (and they are spread across the plains throughout the year), by far the best times to visit this area is during the migratory periods.
