Now it appears that Zambia will join in :: "The Zambian government has officially introduced 16% VAT on all tourism products, effective from the 1 January 2014.
VAT is currently at 0% on tourism services, meaning an additional 16% will now be added to existing rates for tourism packages, accommodation and activities in 2014. Park fees, community levies and flights are excluded from the increase."
If the Zambian government fully implements this change they are effectively discouraging tourists. Zambia already has high Visa fees, numerous airport taxes and given the infrastructure limitations of the nation, it is generally one of the more expensive destination for tourists.
While we believe that Zambia is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa but we do not believe that this move will help tourist numbers.
